We held a puzzle challenge day for some of our senior students and invited students from one of our mainstream partner schools. It was inspiring to see both sets of youngsters interacting and working towards a goal in a fun environment. Students were also able to show progress in key areas of using and applying and space, shape and measure, including discussing patterns and problem solving. The puzzle activities are fantastic for developing our students’ spatial awareness, co-ordination, social and fine motor skills and we have now incorporated many puzzles into our daily lessons. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these events to other special schools.

We have used the Happy Puzzle Company for the last two years and both the staff and students have enjoyed the experience. The students have developed their team working skills as well as mathematical and logical problem solving. The instructor was brilliant at tailoring the sessions to our needs from Yr 7 to 11.

The Puzzle Challenge Day at our school excited and challenged all children, from Reception to Year 6. The main benefits were undoubtedly logic and teamwork skills. In the long-term it will have provided a memorable Maths-based experience which we hope will inform their problem solving skills of the future. We would recommend this to other schools as it is an engaging experience for all children and also a great opportunity for building further links with parents.

I learnt that don’t just look at a problem and assume it’s hard. These puzzles will help me in Maths
